Homelessness is harmful to both your physical and mental health. In Scotland, the government has implemented a public health approach to homelessness to enable partnership working and a whole system approach to health and housing.

Models such as housing first and supported accommodations are being implemented throughout the country to bring stability to people who have experienced re-traumatisation through multiple exclusions and ensure that they have the support that they require. These models ensure that people have access to someone who can support their needs by building a close relationship with them and supporting them to register with local doctors surgeries, dentists and by integrating them into their community. The success rates are much higher with people remaining accommodated for longer.
